The best gear ratio for your Tenere 700

The transmission of the Tenere 700, like many other motorbikes, is unfortunately a little long from the factory. By changing the gear ratio, the manufacturers take advantage of an opportunity to comply with the increasingly strict emission- and noise regulations.

However, as the Tenere rides a bit sluggish with the standard gear ratio, a change of the gear ratio really makes sense at this point. Changing the number of teeth results in a longer or shorter ratio between the engine and the rear wheel. For example, if a 14-tooth pinion is fitted at the gearbox output instead of the 15-tooth standard pinion, the engine speed will be higher / the gear ratio shorter at the same driving speed. This makes sense if you want better acceleration. If you like to use the Tenere off-road a lot, shortening the gear ratio is something that you have to do.

A change to a 17 sprocket, on the other hand, would reduce the revs at the same speed - often used to increase the top speed or on touring bikes to get a low rev level. The reverse is true for the rear sprocket. More teeth increase engine speed, fewer reduce it. Please note that when using larger or smaller sprockets, the chain length often has to be changed as well.
